Microsoft and Hangzhou municipal government have signed a three-year MoU (Memorandum of Understanding), whereby Microsoft will help the latter set up two new technology centers in Hangzhou city, the capital of Zhejiang province, the China Tech News reported on May 15. Under terms of the MoU, Microsoft will build a cloud computer center and a Microsoft Center in Hangzhou. Meanwhile, the Hangzhou government pledged that it will reinforce anti-piracy initiatives by encouraging government departments, enterprises, and individual users to use authentic software. Microsoft, however, declined to reveal the value of the deal. In addition, in November 2008, Microsoft pledged that it will invest US$1 billion into R&D in China for the 2008-2011 period.
